All students in grades 9-12 should join their anticipated graduation year Google Classroom group for important announcements and information.
How is a student promoted? How do I get in my right grade?
For students to be enrolled in a grade, they must earn the following credit value by the end of each school year. Promotions are only made in the summer.
- For 10th grade, students should have 5 credits at the end of the previous school year.
- For 11th grade, students should have 12 credits at the end of the previous school year.
- For 12th grade, students should have 20 credits at the end of the previous school year.
Do I need to take a foreign language to graduate from Ocean Springs High School?
No. However, many colleges require two years of the same language for entrance to the college. Please check the college you are interest in for their specific admission requirements.
How do I send my transcripts to colleges?
Parents (or students 18 and older) should complete a transcript request form and turn it in to the counselors' office. After the first free three transcripts, students will pay $2.00 per transcript.
How do I sign up for the ACT?
Visit actstudent.org, create an account, and register. Be sure to save your login and password as you will need it to view scores. If you are on the free/ reduced lunch list, you are eligible for two free ACTs during your junior and senior year.
What do I need to do to get an ACT fee waiver?
Students who receive free or reduced lunch are eligible for ACT fee waivers. Please keep your approval letter from the nutrition office and submit it to the front office to be added to the fee waiver list.
How many college visits do I get?
Seniors are awarded two administrative absences for college visits that do not count against the student for exemption. The parent of the student must request (in person) administrative absence leave through the attendance office.
What do I need to do if I plan to play a sport in college?
Students need to register through the eligibilitycenter.org, submit official ACT scores to the NCAA by including the code 9999 when registering for the ACT, request an official transcript be sent to the eligibility center by submitting a transcript request form.
How apply do I apply for college?
Get familiar with the websites for all of the schools you are interested in. Many universities have online applications that vary in cost. If you receive free and reduced lunch, please see your counselor for a possible fee waiver.
What is the FAFSA?
You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov after October 1 of your senior year. Please contact Ms. Cannon for help with this process. Get2College offers FAFSA days at OSHS in the fall and spring. Ms. Cannon makes appointments for these days for you to make the most of your time.
How do I apply for state financial aid like MTAG and HELP?
Visit msfinancialaid.org beginning October 1 of your senior year. It will ask for GPA and ACT scores by your counselor. GPA will be submitted in the spring of your senior year. However, ACT should be submitted
