Student Services

The Office of Special Services supports all students by addressing barriers to learning and enhancing healthy development. The department supervises the identification of students for Special Education, Intellectually Gifted, and Section 504 services. The Office of Special Services is committed to the success of each student, spearheading programs to complement the learning that takes place in the classroom and enhance the overall education experience.

Annual Family Engagement Symposium

Join MDE’s Academic Team for the Annual Family Engagement Symposium on Tuesday, April 29-30 in Meridian, as we strive to foster positive family/school relationships. The symposium will bring together families, educators, advocates, community organizers, and other stakeholders in an effort to build and support strong relationships that contribute to students being successful and reaching higher academic goals. Sessions are designed to help all stakeholders understand the rights of parents and children, the educational process, and provide resources to support home/school partnerships.

Education Scholarship Account

The ESA program provides an opportunity for parents of children with disabilities who wish to withdraw their child from the public school system to use scholarship money to help defray the cost of private school tuition or other specific allowable activities to educate their child. The ESA program was created by the Equal Opportunity for Students with Special Needs Miss. Code Ann. §§ 37-181-1 et. seq. The program is being administered by the Mississippi Department of Education, Office of Special Education.
